Ayako Aramaki

Ayako Aramaiki lives and works in an urban environment, yet she longs for the simplistic attraction of the countryside. As a way of merging these two disparate worlds, she addresses the function of undeveloped plots of land in the context of the modern city. The unkempt properties are cleared of overgrown weeds, vines, and brush and the clippings collected. The clippings are then placed into house-shaped molds which act as compost bins. The form is removed and the process repeated around the property until all the clippings are used up. The compost house forms that dot the freshly cleared lot question the concept of development and our insistence on obscuring the view.
